"It would be my honor to serve as a board member for the Dubuque Community School District.  My passion and purpose have consistently been centered around children's wellbeing, and I believe that, coupled with my experience in the district, as well as my commitment to collaborative work will allow me to be an effective board member.  I will always focus on what's best for our students, staff, and families to ensure that Dubuque children receive a world-class, inclusive, and meaningful education. "

About Mae's
Experince

Mae's 34 years of professional experience inlcudes: 

A commitment to advocacy for children, people with disabilities, abuse survivors, and the elderly through various social work positions

  • 10 years as the Director of Behavioral Health for the Dubuque Community School District

  • 5 years as CEO for the Mental Health/Disability Services of the East Central Region

  • Currently serving as the Executive Director of the East Central Intergovernmental Association (ECIA)

Additional certifications:

  • Green Dot Violence Prevention trainer

  • Person-Centered Thinking trainer

  • 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher 

Mae's Vision

On serving the Board of Education:

Mae believes the board's responsibility is to ensure that children and adults feel safe at school. She believes that a sense of safety is the best condition for teaching and learning. 
On supporting DCSD staff:

Mae believes that the school board should trust the district administration while simultaneously asking clarifying questions and seeking evidence in order to make good policy and budget decisions.  
On supporting families: 
​
Mae believes that all families should take an active role in their children's education and be partners with school staff because it takes all of us to support students in their physical, emotional, mental, and intellectual development.
